Research Interests

Jon Phillips is Research Associate for The Governance of Clean Development project in the School of International Development at the University of East Anglia (www.clean-development.com). His current research focuses on the governance of clean energy in India, South Africa and at the global scale, including the governance of climate finance and carbon markets.

Jon has research and advocacy experience with a number of NGOs and research institutions working on issues of global convergence, sustainability, youth volunteering and women's rights. He also has experience of working in Tanzania, Liberia and India.

Jon holds a Masters degree in Environment and Development from King’s College London, where he focused on interests in gender and development, and the political economy of global environmental change. His dissertation research in Liberia investigated the gendered governance of water supply, through an exploration of local social relations and international political networks. He also holds an undergraduate degree in Chemistry (MSci) from the University of Bristol, where he conducted research on the oceanic biogeochemistry of past and present climates.
